Scholarship Program Policy

Tanzania Adventists in the United States of America(TAUS) members are dedicated to supporting Tanzania Unions and local Conferences’ effort in preparing and educating qualified Theology or Religion students to meet the needs of an increasing church membership.

 

The Purpose of the TAUS Scholarship Program is to provide scholarships to Theology or Religion. students attending/will be attending University of Arusha in Tanzania or Bugema University in Uganda. The scholarship is intended to help them pursue or complete their first degree program in Theology or Religion. TAUS hope that this Scholarship Program will empower church members who have demonstrated God’s calling to the gospel ministry in the designated area with need-based educational resources.

 

The total number of scholarship to be awarded each year for each scholarship will depend on factors including but not limited to: availability of funds, applicant qualifications, and/or TAUS members’ decisions made through the Executive Committee and recommendations of the TAUS Scholarship Committee (TASC). TAUS Scholarship individual maximum award per academic year is US$900.

 

TAUS offers three types of scholarships: Conference and TAUS Partnership (CTP) Scholarship; TAUS Mission Scholarship (TMS); TAUS Partnership Scholarship (TPS). All these scholarships apply only to tuition and fees that must be paid direct to the university.

 

  1. Conference and TAUS Partnership (CTP) Scholarship
    CTP Scholarship is available to undergraduates who have a full endorsement of their local conference, and have been voted to receive at least 50% of the total cost of college attendance (tuition and boarding).CTP Scholarship Eligibility
    i). Demonstrate pastoral and leadership potential.
    ii). Provide a proof of 50% contribution from the local conference.
    iii). Plan to be enrolled full-time (12-16 credits) in a bachelor’s degree program in Theology or Religion.
    iv). Verifiable registration status at the end of the University’s drop/add period.
    v). Maintain a minimum cumulative grade average of B.
    vi). Tanzania citizen, and Seventh-day Adventist church member in good standing.CTP Scholarship Award Limits
    ▪ A maximum of US $900 per academic year will be awarded
    ▪ The CTP scholarship award is renewable up to three consecutive academic years to eligible students. Award renewals are not guaranteed.
  2. TAUS Mission Scholarship (TMS)
    TMS is available to student who are in a second or third year at the University of Arusha in Tanzania or Bugema University in Uganda.TMS Scholarship Eligibility
    i). Be enrolled in full time bachelor’s degree program in Theology or Religion.
    ii). Have a minimum of 24 credit hours completed at the time of application.
    iii). A minimum grade average of B for all completed courses.
    iv). Verifiable and genuine financial need or difficult caused by unexpected event while enrolled in school.
    v). Lay Evangelist or Lay Pastor work experience performed under any local conference in Tanzania.
    vi). Tanzania citizen, and Seventh-day Adventist church member in good standing.TMS Scholarship Award Limits
    ▪ The maximum of US$900 per academic year will be awarded.
    ▪ The Award is renewable up to two consecutive academic years to qualified students.
    ▪ Award renewals are not guaranteed.
  3. TAUS Partnership Scholarship (TPS)
    The TPS scholarship is available to only to 2rd and 3rd year Theology or Religion students, including returning diploma holders student who were in the field (Conference employees) and wish to complete their first degree in Theology or Religion.TPS Scholarship Eligibility
    i). Pastoral ministry work experience from any local conference in Tanzania.
    ii). A minimum grade average of B in all completed courses.
    iii). Able to receive an endorsement from local conference.
    iv). Demonstrated ministerial and leadership qualities and potential upon graduation.
    v). Tanzania citizen, and Seventh -day Adventist church member in good standing.TPS Scholarship Award Limits
    ▪ The maximum of US$900 per academic year will be awarded.
    ▪ The Award is renewable up to two consecutive academic years to qualified students. Award renewals are not guaranteed.

 

Application Instructions

  • The DEADLINE for scholarship applications is December 1, 2023, 11:55 PM East African Time (no exceptions).
  • You will be notified through email by January 10, 2024 should you be selected for this scholarship
  • Please submit a completed application form including all required recommendation letters (if handwritten, please print legibly). Incomplete applications will not be processed.
  • Do not leave any question unanswered. Please write N/A if a question does not apply to you,
  • For those planning to start their degree program, please submit a copy of your official high school/diploma transcript. Those already started their degree program must submit a copy of their most recent official university transcript.
  • Please Note: TAUS will process scholarship application received by online submission only. All required documents including the application form must be sent as attachments in a single submission using the online form provided on this page. TAUS will not process any incomplete application or applications submitted through this form.

Recommendation Letters & Information

Your application requires three recommendation letters. These letters must be submitted from your Local Pastor, Local Conference Official, and Academic Reference (Professor or someone that knows your academic potential). Conference recommendation letter must be signed by a conference president or executive Secretary.

Do not collect recommendations and send them to us directly. The recommender must send all recommendations, not the applicant. We will not accept recommendation letters provided by the applicant. Please provide the contact info for the recommender in the requested fields below.
